The former Navajo Department of
Transportation is now officially established as the Navajo Division of Transportation added to the Executive Branch
of Navajo government. Our website address www.navajodot.org will not change, however, information on the
site will be tailored to suit the Division. The site will be enhanced with
new features and information for you.

On July 21, 2009, the Navajo Nation
Council approved legislation establishing the Navajo Division of
Transportation with a vote overwhelmingly in favor of the change. The President of the Navajo Nation
sanctioned the Council’s action with his signature of approval on August 7,
2009; adding another important event to Navajo Nation progress.

There were many who worked hard in
support of the new Division; we thank everyone who contributed. A special
note of appreciation is extended to the Navajo Nation Council Delegates who,
with leadership and foresight, voted to create the Division. Our appreciation
is also extended to the President of the Navajo Nation, Dr. Joe Shirley, Jr.
First and foremost, we thank the
Chapters, local communities and people of the Navajo Nation for their vote of
confidence. The action by the Navajo Nation Council reflected the position
expressed by a large majority of Chapters which passed resolutions in support
of a stronger transportation entity. We sincerely thank the many Chapter
leaders, Officers, Chapter staff members and advocates who carried the
message for us.
We realize that our change to a
Division is accompanied by increased expectations in performance, productivity and services. As
the Navajo Division of Transportation we were characterized by expansion,
creativity and pro-activity; we expect to continue in this same mode adding
more innovative programs for Navajo roads and transportation.
We also appreciate and thank the many
Partners who continue to support
our evolution into the comprehensive transportation entity we want to be;
these are our friends at State DOT’s, Counties, Districts, Indian Nations and
respective Legislatures. We value these alliances knowing that no
organization or group can do it alone.
